welcome to our america's cup center here at pier 80. i wanted to make some further announcements in light of the discussion that has been happening in our city on our america's cup event happening, starting this year, and will definitely have been in 2013 as well. i am here with stephen berkley, the head of the event authority. thank you to you and to jim and mike and our team for working intensely for months on the last few weeks, putting together the development agreement that is part of the investments on the america's cup, which oracle and others have been working on. the last couple of weeks, i have been a key participant with members of the board of supervisors but also engaged between our staff and the abet a party and corp. team staff, to try to get to all of the complex agreements that have to do with the investments. i will say, in light of those discussions, some of which have been written about extensively from all of you, i started to get the feeling that people were for getting help on this race is going to be for our city

we have other partners at pier 7. we have restaurants at pier 9. and we have pier 14. there are a number of projects. this project shown here represents the last piece of development, the change from transformation of the waterfront. this is really unique id the fact that it represents a seam in the waterfront. if you go of block to the south, you are at the embarcadero center. you have a 220 ft high residential project. we acknowledge this is a very sensitive area. it is a waterfront property. it is downtown and residential neighborhood that blends into the north. we have tried to take a very careful approach. one of the things i talked about in terms of the commercial interest is parking. it is the host of a number of wonderful waterfront businesses. add to the vibrancy of the waterfront. there is also a number of users that really true they are dependant and people getting year by other means. specifically merchants, such as golden gate meat company, golden gate winery -- these are people that sell heavy food objects, and people that come down here will not always b

i am currently watching pier 36 come down to make way for the brandon street wharf. i am here to support the 8 washington project because it, too, will improve our waterfront. i am also an avid walker and pedestrian safety advocates. no one uses this area to the full capacity. 8 washington will widen the sidewalks, welcoming more walkers, runners, bikers, and families to the waterfront. as someone who lives near the waterfront, i also know how important it is that we have more public open space and parks to enjoy, which is exactly what 8 washington provides. years of community input and hundreds of meetings are what have gotten us to this point today. we do not want to lose this opportunity to improve the waterfront. i strongly urge you to allow this great project to move forward to the benefit of not only those of us who live here, but for san francisco itself and for those who visit us. thank you. >> good afternoon, commissioners. terry, san francisco resident. thank you for the opportunity to speak in support of the project. i would like to read into the record a

the organization -- the pier safe committee meets every month. they have pulled people for a lot of reasons but especially with disaster preparedness and that's been helping us out as part of it. communication was key. we started a fishnet radio program every tuesday when you hear the sirens go off at noon, 20 of our properties across the wharf do a radio check with our organization to make sure that they're checking in and we report on that monthly to find out who is and who isn't checking in. it serves as a great reminder. things obviously change and people switch within organizations so if we see that an organization is not checking in we double back with them to find out what's going on and make sure we can have them as part of it. the emergency preparedness group also works on a drill every year, and we just had our drill this last friday in partnership with the san francisco fire department, the department of emergency management, first 72 hours. we had a drill so the community members that live near the wharf as well as the businesses and
